Escalators are systems consisting of continuously rotating steps that operate with electricity and allow people to move easily between floors. They are widely used in places such as shopping centers, airports, and metro stations. For escalators to operate safely and efficiently, a mechanism called the escalator control panel is required.
The escalator control panel is an electronic circuit that manages and supervises all functions of the escalator. The escalator control panel adjusts the speed, direction, stopping, and starting of the escalator. It also controls the safety systems of the escalator. For example, when a malfunction or danger occurs on the escalator, it automatically stops the escalator and sounds an alarm.
The escalator control panel is usually located at the upper station of the escalator as the main control panel and at the lower station as a revision control panel. The escalator control panel monitors and controls the escalator through sensors, buttons, switches, lamps, and screens connected to the escalator. The escalator control panel also allows maintenance personnel to manually control the escalator.
The escalator control panel can operate in two ways: star-delta panels and speed control devices. There are two different operating modes in star-delta connection. These are stop/start mode and timed operation mode. Three different options can be used in panels with speed control devices: continuous mode, stop/start mode, and low-speed mode. The use of speed control devices provides energy savings and longer mechanical life for the escalator.
The escalator control panel ensures the safe and comfortable operation of the escalator. However, the escalator control panel must be suitable for the escalator regulations.
Escalator control panels can be customized to comply with regulations. Omron PLC, Schneider Contactors, Siemens switchgear, and Onka terminals are used in our panels. The fault display screen is Omron branded. An application that authorized personnel can use to view faults, change parameters, operate the unit, perform manual lubrication without removing the panel is available. It is also possible to remotely view faults if there is an internet connection.
